Joey Chapman is a passionate paddling guide, coach, and adventurer dedicated to sparking a love for paddlesport in everyone he meets. From guiding epic journeys to delivering top-tier coaching and safety courses, Joey’s mission is to empower others with the confidence, skills, and joy that paddling brings.
Joey’s paddling journey began at 16, thanks to his college mentor, Windy, who inspired him to get in a boat and embrace the adventure. Watching expedition videos fueled his dream of living those epic adventures, which today he is living out. Based at the vibrant paddling hub of Llandysul Paddlers in Wales, Joey now guides and coaches paddlers of all levels, blending his deep love for the sport with his passion for community.
A standout memory for Joey is his “comeback” trip in 2018, when his friend Chips coaxed him back on the water after a hiatus. Paddling the Tawe River with an incredible crew reignited Joey’s passion and became the foundation of his coaching philosophy: every trip, no matter how big or small, is an opportunity to fully embrace the moment and inspire others to do the same.
Joey’s expertise as a Canoe Wales provider is unmatched, with the Whitewater Safety course being his favorite. He believes mastering whitewater confidence unlocks a paddler’s full potential, giving them the tools to thrive in any conditions. Beyond coaching, Joey values paddling’s community spirit, describing it as the heart and soul of the sport. Whether it’s Chips urging him to paddle again or his 3-year-old son lighting up at the sight of a canoe center, Joey knows paddlesport is more than a hobby—it’s a family. The network of people who lift each other up, celebrate each other’s victories, and stand strong in the face of challenges is what Joey feels makes the paddling community so incredibly special.
Joey’s partnership with Bending Branches was an easy choice. Impressed by the craftsmanship and quality of their paddles, he loves how they support local clubs and nurture new paddlers. “It’s rewarding to see clients fall in love with a BB paddle during a course, then invest in one for themselves—it’s a true highlight of my work,” he says. Joey’s go-to paddles include the Explorer Plus, Expedition Plus, and Beavertail, which have withstood everything from 100-mile canoe trips to rocky Welsh whitewater.
Looking ahead, Joey can’t wait for his next adventure: paddling through the breathtaking Ardèche Gorge. From turquoise waters to hidden caves and local culture, it’s a trip Joey knows will create lasting memories. For Joey Chapman, paddling is more than a sport—it’s a calling to connect, inspire, and create community through adventure. Growing up in the North West of Scotland with the sea and lochs surrounding my home, I've felt a deep connection with the sea for as long as I can remember. This connection has inspired me to explore amazing places worldwide, from Scotland to Patagonia. Recently, my passion has evolved into providing others the ability to explore, which brings a whole new world of joy.
My favorite paddling experiences to date include kayaking over 2000km through the western fjords of Patagonia and, more recently, a fantastic canoe expedition paddling the Spey, Tay, and Dee rivers of Scotland. These adventures in my home country have been particularly memorable.
As a canoeist, I align closely with Bending Branches. I am deeply passionate about woodwork in my spare time and have even built a few of my own paddles. I am impressed with the craftwork and design of Bending Branches paddles, particularly the blade profiles that perform smoothly in both whitewater and flatwater.
I am a Canoe & Sea Kayak guide, regularly involved in canoe and kayak expeditions worldwide. Along with fellow Bending Branches teammate Tim Hamlet, I own Kayak Summer Isles and coach canoeing and kayaking around Scotland. I hold BCU 4* Canoe and BCU 5* Sea Kayak Coach and Leader certifications.
Notable achievements include the solo circumnavigation of Scotland in 2013 by sea kayak, combined with an ascent of the 282 Scottish 3000ft peaks in winter, for which I was named UK & Scottish Adventurer of the Year. I have paddled over 2000km through Patagonia via three separate expeditions and was the first to canoe the Scottish Spey, Tay, and Dee consecutively—a 350km expedition completed in 4.5 days. I have earned and retained respect among top-end coaches in both Scotland and Patagonia.
On the river, my go-to steadfast paddle is the Expedition Plus. I am known for putting my equipment through a hard time, and the Expedition Plus can take a beating, especially in the shallow, rocky, and technical Scottish rivers. The positive T-Grip handle helps retain control on technical sections. On flatwater, my preferred paddle is the Black Pearl ST, which is light, responsive, and a pleasure to use. Growing up near Georgia's Lake Lanier, I found my passion for fishing while watching bass tournaments and envisioning life on the water. My family faced financial hardships, but kayak fishing unlocked an affordable, accessible way for me to explore, adventure, and fish in places I’d only dreamed about. Kayaking gave me a true sense of freedom—no fishing spot was out of reach, whether it was a hidden creek, a wide lake, or a winding river. I've had paddles snap on me in tough waters and have learned firsthand the importance of reliable gear.
I’m the founder of Northfisherman, a content creation business dedicated to sharing the beauty and thrill of the outdoor industry. As a kayak bass angler and content creator, I partner with apps and companies to bring unique insights into Georgia’s rivers and lakes. I travel regularly in search of new waters to fish and new techniques to master, competing in tournaments and guiding others along the way. My achievements include completing the Georgia Bass Slam annually, placing 4th in Angler of the Year for the GA Bass Nation Kayak Trail, and earning multiple state angler awards.
A defining moment for me came in 2023 on the Savannah River when a fellow angler let me borrow his Bending Branches Angler Pro Versa paddle after mine snapped at the start of the trip. This paddle’s durability and lightweight design impressed me, making it easy to maneuver and allowing me to continue enjoying the day. This experience reinforced my desire to partner with Bending Branches, whose commitment to quality and sustainability aligns with my own values. Their innovative paddles elevate kayak fishing experiences, and I’m excited to showcase these tools for fellow kayak anglers who appreciate craftsmanship and care about preserving the outdoors.

For Eron Dodds, paddling isn't just a hobby—it's a profound journey of tranquility, physical exercise, and unwavering passion. He first dipped his paddle into the waters in a canoe, eventually transitioning to kayaks nine years ago, captivated by the freedom and serenity it offered. Beyond personal enjoyment, Eron finds true fulfillment in sharing this passion with others.
His most cherished paddling adventures take him to remote and challenging destinations, like the hard-to-reach backlakes where boat launches are nonexistent. These pristine waters demand determination to access but reward with unparalleled beauty and solitude, making every excursion essential to Eron's connection with nature.
Choosing Bending Branches was a natural extension of Eron's commitment to quality and performance. His allegiance to the brand stems from years of relying on their paddles, drawn not only by their superior craftsmanship and materials but also by the strong sense of community and support the brand fosters among its ambassadors. As a proud member of the Pro Staff Team, Eron views Bending Branches not just as a supplier but as a family that shares his passion for paddling.
Eron's influence extends far beyond personal paddling pursuits. As the Founder and Director of Kayak Bass Canada and Kayak Fishing Life, he has orchestrated numerous events that unite paddlers and anglers across the country, fostering a community of over 5,800 enthusiasts. His leadership roles at Frontenac Outfitters and active participation in industry events like CanCast underscore his dedication to advancing the paddling community. Additionally, Eron is the founder and director of an annual benefit event for the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario; in the past three years alone the event has raised almost $100,000 for the hospital and the communities/families it serves.
Achievements punctuate Eron's journey in the sport. He's earned the prestigious title of Angler of the Year twice and secured numerous tournament wins and top finishes, testament to his skill and endurance on the water. His contributions to the kayaking community are further highlighted by his role in organizing events like the Water and Dirt Festival Kayak Tournament and the annual UNI-T interprovincial event, bridging paddling communities across Quebec and Ontario.
Eron's preferred paddles reflect his diverse needs and uncompromising standards. The Angler Pro Carbon stands out as his go-to paddle for its lightweight yet sturdy design, reducing fatigue and enhancing efficiency during long days on the water. For shorter excursions, the Navigator's blend of classic wooden aesthetics and modern carbon fiber technology provides both elegance and performance.
In his pursuit of the perfect paddle, Eron has found in Bending Branches a trusted companion that enhances every aspect of his paddling adventures. Chris Funk's lifelong affinity for the water stems from his upbringing, where he was raised on the water by his father. With over two decades of experience as a "canoedist" before transitioning to kayaks, Chris has developed a deep-seated love for all things that float. From navigating open saltwater bays to traversing rivers with alligator-infested swamps, he loves it all. Chris and his bride share a passion for teaching newcomers to paddle, finding joy in witnessing their newfound confidence and skills on the water. They particularily love supporting the special needs community through organizations like Paddle 4 Tomorrow.
Watercraft in general gets Chris into wilder places than most folks typically see, but a whole new realm of discovery is opened up when you add in the near-silent propulsion of a paddle. “Gliding silently across a glass calm black water swamp with no noise save for the water dripping off the paddle blade is as close as I have been to heaven on earth”
Chris shares that he started, like most folks, with very little understanding of how much a “good” paddle can alter a trip. Proof of the true benefit is especially noticed when trying to keep up with Chris for 5 or 6 miles. In his own words, Chris is “not a small guy” and the combination of him, BIG fishing kayaks, photography gear, plus fishing or camping gear, there is a real need for a paddle that will move the heavy load and not loose power due to flex.
Chris offers a slightly different perspective than most when reviewing his go-to paddle: “Without a doubt the Angler Pro is my favorite! The Angler Pro is tougher than woodpecker lips! It has been through rocks, oysters and even a cheeky gator or two. I wouldn’t paddle with anything else.” We’ll leave the gater testing to Chris and take him at his word.

Sheldon Grace is a passionate kayak angler who has found a deep connection with nature through paddling. For Sheldon, paddling offers the freedom to access the shallow, rocky waters where his favorite species, the elusive Shoal bass, thrives. These “shoals” are often difficult to reach with larger watercraft, making paddling the ideal way to pursue these challenging fish.
One of Sheldon’s favorite paddling adventures is floating down the Chipola River, a beautiful and serene waterway where he enjoys the sights, sounds, and the thrill of catching Shoal bass. His love for river fishing and his expertise in targeting Shoal bass have made him a respected figure in the angling community.
Sheldon’s dedication to kayak fishing began at a young age; he started paddling and fishing rivers when he was just 11 years old. His commitment to the sport led to a significant achievement at the age of 14 when he caught the Florida state record Shoal bass in 2017 while kayak fishing. This remarkable accomplishment cemented his status as an exceptional angler.
Currently a senior at Auburn University, Sheldon is majoring in Fisheries, Aquatic Science, and Aquaculture, combining his academic pursuits with his passion for the outdoors. As a member of the Jackson Kayak National Fishing Team, he continues to push the boundaries of kayak fishing, always seeking new challenges and opportunities to connect with nature.
Sheldon’s choice of gear reflects his dedication to the sport. He uses the Angler Pro Carbon Versa-Lok paddle, a lightweight yet durable paddle that withstands the rigors of river fishing. For Sheldon, having a lightweight paddle like the Angler Pro Carbon makes long days on the water more enjoyable, allowing him to fish hard all day without fatigue.
Sheldon’s journey has also been featured on the TV show Road Trip Angler with Jameson Redding, where his skills and love for the sport were showcased to a wider audience. His involvement with Bending Branches speaks to his appreciation for quality, American-made products that can handle the demands of serious river fishing.
Sheldon's experiences and achievements inspire others to embrace the joys of paddling and kayak fishing, making him a valued member of the Bending Branches team. Angler Pro Carbon https://www.instagram.com/fishingwithgrace?igsh=cHR4dHp4eXBqZGRt&utm_source=qr

I've been blessed to do pretty much all you can do in the kayak fishing space, from designing kayaks with Crescent Kayaks, including my lastest top selling kayak the Shoalie, to hosting a TV show, creating & running a national tournament trail, and developing the "river bassin" brand/lifestyle, which happens to be the style of fishing I now employ in the area of kayak fishing. I'm humbled to be known for today as one of the top tournament anglers in the country as I've captured 2 Angler of the Year titles and 7 wins (a record 6 in one year in '22) in just the past 3 seasons! For Dee Kaminski, paddling is more than a hobby—it's a way of life that promotes both physical health and emotional well-being. Since the early 1970s, Dee has been exploring waters across the US and Canada, finding joy in the ever-changing experiences paddling offers.
Her journey with Bending Branches began in 2009 under unexpected circumstances. While guiding a client using a non-Bending Branches paddle, both blades suddenly cracked. Left "up the river without a paddle," Dee's frustration turned to gratitude when Bending Branches stepped in, providing excellent customer service by swiftly replacing the paddles. This pivotal moment solidified Dee's loyalty to the brand, not just for their superior products but also for their genuine care and support.
In 2007, Dee established her kayak fishing charter business, where she imparts her extensive knowledge to enthusiasts ranging from beginners to advanced paddlers and anglers. Her dedication to teaching extends beyond her business; she has also enriched the lives of children at summer camps, teaching them the joy of paddling and witnessing their smiles as they master the art.
Dee's accomplishments in kayak fishing tournaments highlight her skill and dedication:
2010: First place angler, SW Florida - Kayak Wars (200+ anglers)
2019: First place lady angler and largest bass, Memorial Tournament (100 anglers)
2019: First place lady angler, SUP and SKIFF tournament (200+ anglers)
These victories reflect her prowess in the sport and her ability to consistently deliver exceptional performances.
Dee's favorite paddle, the Angler Pro Carbon, epitomizes reliability and performance. Its lightweight design allows Dee to paddle up to 15 miles in a day without fatigue, ensuring she can focus on fishing with confidence.
Dee Kaminski embodies the spirit of adventure and community in the paddling world. Through her charter business, tournament successes, and dedication to teaching, she continues to inspire others to embrace the joy of paddling and fishing, creating unforgettable experiences on the water. MooMoo’s journey on the water began over a decade ago, immersing himself in the world of kayak fishing. With a penchant for both freshwater and saltwater angling, MooMoo is an active member of the NCKA (NorCal Kayak Angler) Forum, contributing valuable insights to the local kayak fishing community. He is a kayak fishing safety advocate and shares his expertise through educational videos on YouTube.
Embracing the transition from pedal to paddle kayak angling, MooMoo finds solace and connection with the water when he holds a paddle. Despite challenging conditions, such as strong winds and towering swells, MooMoo feels in full control, feeling a profound sense of unity with his kayak and the elements.
After experiencing different paddles and brands, the Bending Branches Angler Navigator captured his heart. “I love how light it is and the buoyancy of the blades.” MooMoo credits the lightweight construction for enabling extending paddling sessions and the forgiving wooden blade for promoting proper paddling technique and enjoyment for paddlers of all levels.
MooMoo's dedication to paddle kayak angling has yielded numerous accolades, including victories in prestigious tournaments like the Simply Fishing Tournament and the NCKA AOTY Biggest Lake Trout category. His milestone achievements, such as joining the 40 Inch Club with a 41-inch California Halibut, underscore his prowess on the water.
This year MooMoo is focusing on doing more kayak packing trips. Backpacking used to be his favorite type of camping, but now kayak camping takes the top. MooMoo loves the adventure stemming from fishing and camping in remote areas.

My name is Brandon Mayes AKA That Bass Fishing Dude! Fishing in general has always been a big part of my life growing up fishing with my mom and my aunt. As I got older, the want to learn more is what pushed me to wanting to chase bass. Bass fishing is a true skill that I think most overlook, as these fish are incredibly smart. Knowing how to target and catch them can literally set you up to catch anything in the world! It was my gateway fish LOL. After my 10-year military service I got heavily into paddle sports and kayak fishing. It has been an incredible experience for me. Being 7ft tall, it’s highly unlikely to see another guy with my stature in a kayak, I’ve been dubbed the “tallest kayak angler in the world” and getting started in kayaking wasn’t the easiest for me. I tried a cheap kayak that belonged to my wife and that almost ended my kayaking journey before it started (I sank it) LOL. But nonetheless I did some research and stayed course to find the right platform for me. It’s been a crazy adventure ever since.
My fishing style is all over the place. It incorporates all aspects of angling, from conventional, to Big swimbait fishing, even over to fly fishing fresh and salt water. While I consider myself to be an adventure-based angler, I also fish competitively. Along with that I film and share my experiences with the world via social media and YouTube! Despite starting her paddling journey at the age of 60, Debbie's passion and dedication have propelled her to become a proficient paddler, proving that it's never too late to embrace new adventures on the water. During the last six years, Debbie spends an impressive average of a hundred days a year on lakes and ponds, casting her line for various species of fish.
Debbie's love for paddling stems from her appreciation for being on the water, the opportunity for exercise, and the ability to get her to places a traditional boat cannot, such as traversing down a rocky river. Her humble approach highlights the holistic experience of kayak fishing, valuing the journey as much as the catch itself.
As both a kayak paddler and peddler, Debbie values how her Bending Branches paddle has saved her many times from being stuck in the backs of lakes and rivers, covered in grass and vegetation. Sometimes the most promising of fishing holes are the most challenging to get to, and that is where a paddle can really shine.
Debbie's paddle of choice is the Angler Pro in the striking Copperhead color. Not only does it provide visibility in bustling waterways, but its performance in rough conditions makes it an indispensable companion on Debbie's paddling adventures.

Born and raised in Southeast Georgia, Dustin has always had a rod in hand, chasing fish wherever the water took him. Surfing opened the door to worldwide travel, but when the waves were flat, fishing always filled the time. That passion eventually led to kayak fishing, a game-changer that provided access beyond the shoreline.
Over the past 13 years, Dustin has built an impressive resume in the kayak fishing world. As a longtime member of the Jackson Kayak Fishing Team, he climbed the ranks from National Team angler to Team Lead and ultimately Team Manager. Competitive by nature, Dustin has racked up multiple podium finishes in major tournaments, including the Elite Fishing Series and the Professional Redfish League.
For Dustin, the magic of kayak fishing is in the experience—stealthily paddling into waters boats can't reach, getting up close and personal with schooling redfish or punching through heavy cover for largemouth bass. Having served in the USMC as a Marine Corps Instructor of Water Survival, Dustin brings an unmatched level of skill and toughness to the water.
When it comes to gear, only the best makes the cut. That’s why Bending Branches paddles are an essential part of Dustin’s setup. From small creeks to oyster-lined flats, the Angler Pro Versa-Lok is his paddle of choice—lightweight, durable, and built to handle whatever the water throws his way. https://www.instagram.com/dustinnicholsvtx/ https://www.facebook.com/dustin.nichols.108 https://www.youtube.com/@TidewatersFishing

I grew up fishing and hunting in the foothills of NC, but later moved to the Florida Gulf Coast. My passion for fishing really began to take shape and I spent the next 7 years learning how to catch reds and trout on the flats. I now fish the IFA Kayak Tour, which is a branch of the popular Redfish Tour that takes me to every state along the east coast and Gulf Coast from South Carolina to Louisiana. I'm also working full time producing kayak fishing media and two years ago I traveled and fished Northern California to Southern California, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, and most of the State of Florida including the Keys. I've been fortunate enough to land many different species from my kayak such as Ling Cod, Calico Bass, Rooster Fish, Bull Redfish, and even a Wahoo off the coast of Pensacola. Martin Trahan’s passion for canoeing transcends mere enthusiasm; it offers him a profound connection to nature and serves as a conduit for self-reflection. Canoeing has become a way of life for Martin, one that allows the expression of his traditions, identity, values, and above all, an opportunity to contribute to the protection of the natural heritage.
“The experience of being connected to the natural world is how I found to face my fears, heal, and feel more alive than ever,” Martin explain. The quest for freedom and well-being drives his desire to be in nature, where he finds paradise in the wilderness, accompanied by the “magic of a wooden paddle and the canoe’s movement.” Relaxation, exploration, and admiring the beautiful flora and fauna along the way add to the richness of each paddling journey.
Martin’s remarkable expeditions span continents, ranging anywhere from 40 to a grueling 191 days. These adventures, whether traversing Canada’s icy waters or navigating Frances’s historical routes, showcase his endurance and spirit of exploration. Most importantly, these expeditions involve an element of learning and helping educate others about cultures encounter along the way. When paddling down the Yukon River, team members Ian Finch and Caroline Côté documented native cultures along the Yukon River, shedding light on how the modern world impacts traditional ways of living.
Recently, Martin traveled with fellow ambassadors Ian Finch, Jamie Barnes, and a moose biologist from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities to document the effects of climate change on the moose populations and native populations in northern Minnesota and Canada.
Looking ahead, Martin’s next endeavor will take him to Lapland, Finland, where he’ll embark on a month-long canoe trip above the Arctic Circle. Teaming up with his Finnish friend, Antti Vettenranta, they will paddle Lake Inari, spectacular rivers, ending the journey in the Barents Sea.
Martin’s Instagram account offers glimpses into his expeditions, often with his favorite paddle, the Java straight shaft. “The paddle seems to be an extension of my body. It’s well balanced and the grip is phenomenal.” Martin boasts over 5000 miles with this paddle, not once experiencing wrist or shoulder problems.
As an advocate for canoeing, Martin enjoys sharing his knowledge with outdoor enthusiasts worldwide, inspiring others to embrace the transformative power of paddling and fostering a deeper appreciation for nature.

Rob is always willing to offer advice to new or avid paddlers, alike. Involved in several online kayak fishing communities, Rob enjoys trading advice with other kayak fisherman.
Rob’s biggest love for paddling is the variety of scenery and locations paddling offers. Topping the list of favorite destinations is Turnip Rock in the thumb area of Michigan for the shallow, rocky waters of Lake Huron. “Having that paddle in my hands and being in the middle of nowhere being surrounded by nothing but water, it’s just therapeutic.”
Rob shares that he’s always chosen Bending Branches paddles because they “just flat out get every job done possible while being on the water.” Rob gained more confidence in paddling distance and the ability to conserve energy due to the lightweight construction. He claims it feels like he is holding “nothing,” but invisible paddles are not yet in our product development plans.
Rob aims to break his PB Largemouth this year. His target fishing spot is loaded with vegetation, so his Bending Branches paddle will play a big role in navigating Rob to accomplish this goal!

Peter Yeung isn't just a kayak angler; he's a passionate advocate for introducing newcomers to the joys of kayak fishing. As the director of the annual Paddle Sport Get Together, Peter works hard to expand the sport's reach and give back to the community. Through groups like the Old Town Owners - Ontario Group on Facebook, he organizes regular meetups, providing both newcomers and seasoned enthusiasts with opportunities to connect and share their love for kayaking. Some have described the events as “car meet-ups for kayaks” and appreciate the willingness of others to swap and test gear before buying.
In addition to fostering community camaraderie, Peter considers kayak fishing his form of yoga, let alone a good way to get back in shape (his words, not ours). He cherishes the freedom and flexibility paddling offers, allowing access to places unreachable by larger boats, especially when targeting species like largemouth bass. Peter’s kayak paddle is an essential tool for navigating through weeds to reach prime fishing spots and hook his desired catch. A far more successful approach than having a propellar ensared in vegetation.
Moreover, Peter emphasizes the practical advantages of kayak fishing, including the cost-effectiveness compared to larger boats. Whether someone opts for a budget-friendly setup or invests in top-of-the-line gear, Peter believes that anyone can enjoy the sport and reap its rewards.
Peter’s top paddle choice is the Angler Pro with the Versa-Lok™ ferrule system for its adjustable length, light weight, and durability. “Bending Branches is my favorite brand of kayak paddles. I have used these paddles for over six years, and I will not use anything else.
