BB: How did you get started in kayak fishing?
CHAD: I started kayak fishing after meeting a guy on the beach that used a small kayak to paddle out shark baits while on a fishing trip on Padre Island National Seashore in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1996.
BB: How do you give back to the fishing community?
CHAD: I create events that allows the kayak fishing community to come together, share ideas and compete. We also conduct fundraiser events for charity or contribute to other fundraising events by coordinating donations and offering promotional support.
We help organize and standardize kayak fishing events across the country and offer administrative assistance, oversight, insurance and judging.
Additionally, I create tons of educational and entertaining content through my YouTube Channel and Social Media outlets.
BB: Are you involved in your local fishing scene, too?
CHAD: Yes—tournament support, seminars and lectures, administrative assistance, staff volunteering and sponsorship support.
BB: Is there a local Bending Branches dealer you help out?
CHAD: I promote and support FishUSA in Fairview, PA.
BB: Do you introduce new anglers to kayak fishing?
CHAD: Yes, through my seminars across the country, demo days, YouTube Videos, website, Facebook Groups and through my television shows (see the links below).
BB: Do you work with any specific groups in kayak fishing?
CHAD: Yes—Heroes on the Water. I provide consulting for sponsorship support, volunteer coordination, liaison for industry contacts and fundraiser assistance.
BB: Are there conservation measures you're involved with?
CHAD: Yes, my entire tournament and challenge series through KBF is directed at promoting conservation through catch, photo and release while advocating stewardship of the resource as anglers.
BB: A lot of kayak anglers know who you are. Anything you'd like to tell us that most don't know?
CHAD: Most don't know I studied Aeronautical Science and Engineering and graduated from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. And that I retired from the Navy in 2012 after 20 years. Most people don't know that most of my social media posts are done from the bathroom!
Most people don't know I have actually watched The Notebook, Titanic, Steel Magnolias, Mean Girls and all three of the Pitch Perfect movies.
Lastly, most people don't realize I used to be a male dancer in a Southern Male review called Biscuits and Gravy or that I was also a Coach's Shorts model and High Five instructor.
