The Birth of Adventure Stewardship Alliance

Adventure Stewardship Alliance was founded in 2017 by Paul Twedt. After many years of traveling the country and experiencing our wonderful natural resources, Paul felt he needed to do something beyond just enjoy them. He wanted to help preserve them, and connect people together who also love them.

Paul was joined by fellow Minnesotan, Michael Anderson, another outdoorsman with years of experience and travel behind him. Together they devote their time and energy to building community and taking action for stewardship, especially clean-up projects.

The Three Rivers Project of 2017

In 2017, Adventure Stewardship Alliance embarked on and completed 1,156 miles of river clean-up through the Three Rivers Project. Their territory was ambitious: the Namekogon and St. Croix Rivers, the Minnesota River and 622 miles of the Mississippi River from Lake Itasca to Winona in Minnesota’s southeast corner.

Their goal? To test and compare water quality, to “Pack It Out”(remove trash) and to encourage those who participated to share their stories (develop community). In the end they completed their quest, including pulling 6,310 total pounds of trash out of the three rivers.

  • Learn about and share threats to that area’s ecosystem
  • Share your experiences and research on ASA’s blog
