Bending Branches at Canoecopia 2017
We at Bending Branches love being one of the 250+ vendors each year at Canoecopia, the largest paddlesports expo in the world. Our own head of marketing, Andrew Stern, summed up this year’s expo in one word: “Exhilarating!”
Canoecopia is held right here in our home state of Wisconsin. Hosted by Rutabega Paddlesports, it takes place at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.
20,000 paddling lovers gather at Canoecopia at one time in one place, along with over 250 vendors, and workshops presented by the best in the business.
The Mission of Canoecopia
The mission of Canoecopia is simple: “Canoecopia is the largest paddlesports consumer event in the world. More than 250,000 square feet of kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddleboards, outdoor equipment and clothing, all at the best prices of the season.”
Over 140 workshops provide education and information about gear, skills, stories and destinations for paddling lovers.
Workshops for Everyone
Here’s just a small sampling of the workshop topics from this year’s expo:
- Canoeing with your dog
- A women’s team paddling the Yukon 1000, the longest canoe/kayak race in the world
- How to build a wilderness first aid kit
- SUP safety 101
- How to paddle in waves
- How to rig out your kayak for kayak fishing
- Adaptive paddling for those with physical disabilities
There’s something for everyone. The biggest challenge is narrowing it down!
Bending Branches Booth
Andrew gave us a synopsis of his time there: “The Canoecopia show was absolutely fantastic! We breached record sales numbers at the show last month. It was a pleasure seeing paddlers from novice to seasoned and helping them find the perfect paddle for them.
“It's been especially exciting to see how the growth of sports like kayak fishing and stand-up paddling have positively impact this show, our business, and the paddlesports industry.
“Shows like Canoecopia are why we do what do and come into work every day.”
